The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

The idea of Poku being a 7 foot ball handler who can make pull up jumpers was always a sham. He and guys like Thon are the reasons why I'm so weary about guys who do amazing stuff in highlights but actually suck at doing those things when you look on paper. Having said that...I wouldn't mind taking a flier on him. As a big, he fits a lot of what Hardy wants to do. Play at the elbows, dribble handoff, pass to cutters etc. He can mayyyybe play the KO role. Better than Samanic hopefully. He wasn't THAT terrible last season before he got hurt.

Poku is a perfect tank project and by that I mean he will help you lose lots and you can justify giving him time because “the upside is so tantalizing”. Then you can send him in his way this summer once he has delivered us the 9th pick.

For real though I’d be fine with it to take a look but don’t want him taking any time from our real projects. Someone will pick him up.

I actually don’t see him as a high upside player….realistically that was never in the cards. The 7’2 JR Smith stuff was a bunch of BS. I think he has some skills that can translate into being a role player though….especially in Hardy’s system. Stretch big who can pass a bit and block some shots? That’s somewhat realistic.

Having said that….if he does get picked up by a team they will probably let him go bonkers and he will be the tank commander.

There is 0 upside. He is not a NBA player

I don’t think I was clear… I don’t think he’s high upside but you can convince some he is cuz tall guy who does guard stuff… also a somewhat high prospect. Like you don’t think casuals and some of the dumber jazz personalities wouldn’t be super geeked about Poku. I was kinda joking because in reality he’d likely not play unless there were injuries. But if he’s on the bench and loads need management then it’s a great tank move (likely don’t need anymore tank moves as we are pretty obviously tanking the eff outta this B).

I just think the Jazz have enough guys to develop as is with Key/Brice/Hendricks.

There are some ****** teams with some space to blow... not a lot of young FAs. My guess is Williams still gets 15-20M per year.
