The mere fact that most of us probably expected a far different ruling just goes to show how out of control our law enforcement is. Who is being protected and served when police routinely abuse and kill the public with little or no any accountability? So little accountability that we’re shocked when they’re held accountable despite having a 10 minute video of the crime! Not only is what Rep Waters said a problem because it encouraged potential violence. The bigger issue for me was that she was advocating for a system where the outcome of a trial should be determined by factors and influences that exist outside the courtroom. That is not our system. That is not a system that can function in any way that I would describe as "justice."
If Chauvin had been found innocent the issue I would have had is with the law primarily, but also with the common regard people have for the actions of law enforcement as being inherently justified and the disregard so many still have (and have been expressed in this thread) for the lives of black people.
