Jazz trade John collins

While I’m disappointed in the final return, I’m glad to finally see the Jazz realize that it’s in their best interests to “lose the trade” to create a pathway for (potential) future success for players who need playing time.

Danny wasn’t (maybe fundamentally isn’t) capable of doing that. If he was, I think the Jazz might have just traded Bogdanovic, Clarkson and Conley for Westbrook and then waived/stretched him.

Regardless, I like the decisive direction he’s taking and the path forward. Still think he needs to move Lauri, but he should probably try to actually extract value for him. It’s not as pressing to trade him now that Clarkson, Sexton and Collins are all gone.

Definitely curious to see what happens with Nurkic, Love and Anderson. Not sure any are even on the roster after the deadline.

Just to add onto this, the NBA 10+ vet minimum is $3.6M. So if we assume buyouts for KLove and Anderson where they give back what they’d make on the min (standard practice), that’s an additional $7.2M in potential cap space.

So if we go for a Kuminga deal with outright cap space, it could start out at around $26M. This is an important number because it should push the Warriors past the first apron.

Other posts detail how they could absorb Love and Anderson into an exception and increase their TPE amount.
Thanks for your work on this.

The only real problem I have with taking a flier on Kuminga is that he likely cut into the development of other players. If we don't to attempt to develop young players with some warts, we might as well give up on half our roster lol. We have a lot of young players who are not very good yet. We're in the business of turning lemons into lemonade. But I don't think we have room for JK with Ace in the building.

I like Grimes as a better target because he has proven to be able to scale down into a smaller role and be a contributor.
Grimes can pass and reliably shoot a basketball which is more than you can say for Kuminga or Giddey. We desperately need anyone that does any kind of connective/facilitative ****.

does he **** teh tank, though? Dude had a massive glow up last year.
Probably. I guess I should say: if we’re doing an RFA poach, then I prefer Grimes most. But I think I prefer staying gutted and renting space in this environment where a bunch of teams are clearly trying to move off salary ASAP due to the apron penalties.

Yeah…Grimes fills nicely into most teams, and while his run with the Sixers might not be real it does indicate he has some potential. I don’t think Giddey and Kuminga really work as scaled down players.

Who else we going to pay in the next 4 years? Walker is the only upcoming RFA we have to worry about. He's 22 coming off a career season. Seems like the kind of smart risk to take. I just dont think it's really realistic given teh Bulls will probably just match whatever we can come up with.
Would giddey ruin the tank though?
Would hate to have positioned ourselves with the perfect roster to get Dybantsa next season and then pay giddey and lose out on a top pick because of it

Until we identify our franchise player, why are we going to add another solid to pretty good player? We just dumped a few solid to pretty good players.
This.

Still would've thought he had more value coming into the off-season, but after the Sexton trade I am fine.

Happy the JCs and Sexton have been set free and we can focus on the youth movement + Lauri
Until Lauri is moved
