Poll: Should the Jazz Match Hayward's $15.75 a year/4 year Contract?

They should have extended him last year. I see him having a major improvement from last season. If that improvement benefits Charlotte, a lot of you are going to eat your words. It was the exact same with Matthews. Everyone was saying he wasn't worth the offer extended. Hindsight is a bitch.

you haven't watched the Jazz and/or have no understanding of the climate of the NBA.

Hayward has improved each season he's been in the league.

He had a frustrating year, in a disorganized offense. Using last year as a litmus test for his skills would be foolish when everyone saw how well he played under Sloan. Hayward is a system player. He did well at Butler and under Sloan.

Everyone's shooting % are wildly better with Hayward on the court too.

Link? Wildly better lol..... hayward played 37 minutes per game last year (iirc). So he was on the court almost all the time.

What was the jazz team shooting percentage? Where did the jazz offense rank?

This is going to be a no-brainer after the new TV deal is signed. Glad for a forward looking DL who isn't caught up in the fan reaction to a dollar figure rather than realities of the business.

Won't the new TV deal or anything else like that will also affect the future signings/market? Wouldn't it be wiser to poach players from as low prices as we could before the TV deal, so we could still have advantage after the deal is on? And we could use that advantage to actually compete with other bidders when hunting free agents or to convince our players to stay, not to overpay someone like Hayward.

Why is the rush with overpaying Hayward?

This. I think for the most part, Hayward's ability to make people better on the court and how he can effect a game without even scoring are areas that most Jazz fans pay zero attention to when assessing his value. Most fans simply recycle the shooting percentage argument, which makes sense because there is a large amount of idiots in this fan base.

Jefferson is not a repalcement for Hayward lol. I'd rather bring Williams back. If this is the case then embrace Tank 2.0.

Jefferson is better for next years tank though. (Which if we spend this much on hayward, is apparently what we are doing next year)

Honestly, you can't blame Hayward for the woes of the Jazz last year. It was one of the most dysfunctional displays of basketball I have ever seen. It reminded me of watching D-league games (unwatchable). It has been established that Hayward is not a #1 option (hopefully Exum is). We all know Hayward can do very well in a good system. If we can't get Parsons, who else do we replace him with? Losing him will be a huge dent in the quality of this team.

If the Jazz believe they can actually replace him for less, then great. Otherwise, re-signing him is a no-brainer.

The other thing to keep in mind, that going over the cap won't hurt the Jazz like it has in previous years. The Jazz have always been profitable (except for a couple years paying luxury tax I assume). With the current revenue sharing, the Millers are making a lot more $$$. So it doesn't hurt them as much to pay more for Hayward.

If the cap goes up, but max contracts are the same, the team can keep its core and not worry about luxury tax. I feel like the current team will be able to contend once they develop and jell. Maybe I am too optimistic. I think Hayward is a key piece to this team. Without him, they take a big step backwards.

Michael Jordan is a competitive gambler. I think he is going to bet on us not matching. He'll take the risk rather than give up assets.
