where are people getting this crap from? Facebook, Trump, and Fox News have proven time after time to be unreliable. I don’t understand why we must keep going through this. Especially when a segment of our population remains unwilling to attempt the proven ways of combating this disease, social distancing.

Yes, we all get it. You don't like Trump so anything he possibly talks about has to be bs and you're going to write it off.

Fine, don't listen to Trump. Just do your own freaking research and use your brain.

Actual doctors who aren't worried about politics are using this. There is evidence that Hydroxychloroquine blocks (or limits) the rna replication of COVID19.

he’s President of the United States. You can’t just “turn him off” if you don’t like what he’s saying. He has the world’s largest platform and his own words often translates into policy. As much as I hate him you can’t just dismiss what he says.

You Using “Dr Oz” proves my point. Your last few posts explains perfectly what is wrong with America right now. Distrust of expertise (Fauci) and proven methods (social distancing) and trust in entertainers (Oz) and their unproven and dangerous “solutions.” Ive read that in some states that pharmacies are struggling to have enough stock of this drug to people who have actually been proscribed it (not for Covid) because of Trump’s words.

For those of you who haven’t read “The Death of Expertise” by Tom Nichols yet, I’d highly suggest it during this time. It’s an easy and fast read. Written a few years ago yet it’s prophetic of our time where the ignorance of morons is valued equal to or greater than the knowledge of experts.

Dr. Oz is a disgusting POS. He's a ****ing entertainer, just like douche bag Dr. Drew, who had to walk back his VERY dangerous statement saying that "Doctors" were not worried about COVID-19 and that it wasn't a pandemic.

STOP PAYING ATTENTION TO ENTERTAINERS WHO CALL THEMSELVES DOCTORS!

Physicians had been discussing and prescribing this (for COVID-19) before Trump made any statements, and the questions of supply had already been discussed before I ever heard Trump talking about it.
 
anyone Wonder if trump and some of his friends have stock in this drug? The way they’re pumping it makes me wonder if they’re pulling a Burr/Loeffer and trying to profit off this disease. There’s definitely precedent for this sort of thing...

It’s a generic drug. The real money is made when the drug is on patent. Once a medication is off patent, it’s much less likely to pick up FDA indications for other conditions because there’s nobody financially backing it. This is only tangentially related, but I had mentioned in another thread that though everyone is skeptical of drug companies, our society accepts the conclusions of drug companies into our societal understanding of “science” and “medicine” because we give great credence to FDA indications (or non-indications) when we fail to realize that the biggest hurdle in FDA indications is someone willing (i.e. a pharmaceutical company) to fund the study sufficient to get an indication.

tl;dr there really isn’t a ton of money involved in this. It’s a cheap medication. And while it could get high utilization during an epidemic, this is used for short duration. This is why drugs you take indefinitely (diabetes, blood pressure, antidepressants, cholesterol modifying, etc.) have more financial backing from pharmaceutical companies because there’s a lot more money to be made on people who will take something for 10+ years than there is something that’s taken for a week or two (antibiotics), and a reason why you aren’t seeing antibiotic commercials.
