What's new

On the record...

No one speaks quite as matter of factly and confidently while being consistently wrong as Cy.
Ya, he’s wrong a lot. On the other hand, Rudy Gobert gets dunked on a lot because he’s not afraid to challenge.
Y'all got some weird definitions of dunked on coming from the dude who slobbed on RJ Barretts nob for a straight month and said he was going to NYK....
The way Elizah was riding RJ’s *** he had RJ in the HOF. ROTFL

Is Edwards even a good defender? His defensive stats and ratings are terrible. Russell isn’t a good defender and KAT defending the perimeter isn’t going to end well. Again Gobert will have one decent defender with him and covering mistakes of the others. We know how this story ends we’ve seen it multiple times already.

Update: the Timberwolves are bottom-10 in the league in Defensive Rating

Ant is a better defender than Mitchell and Russell developed into a solid team defender last year. KAT isn't nearly as bad as his reputation. Most 4s in the NBA are easy guards.

Edwards has the same defensive rating this year as Donovan did with Rudy

So, should that happen, you won't just be wrong, but so egregiously wrong that people will throw it back in your face for a long time to come?

Lolz

What about this Minnesota team screamed they were ready? Lmao the play-in win against a team missing their best player?

Update: Edwards and KAT are 21 and 26. Not sure I understand the urgency they felt. Just a horrific trade on their end.

Bump

I think KAT/Gobert is an elite fit and it's going to be lethal.

Lolz

There are going to be a lot of head-in-the-sand awakenings over the next year of "omg you mean you can win with teh bigs playing teh basketballs?"

Lolz

When all is said and done, my fear is that we will have traded away the third best player in franchise history, at 30 years old, who would have been a lifer, for a package of irrelevance, because we're seduced by possibility.

Lolz

This is so cringe to read lol. I can’t wait to bump this thread in the future.

This is textbook liking a player so much you think nothing can or will go wrong. When it does you’re sitting there wondering how you got there then start making up excuses for why you’re there instead of facing the facts.

Bump

He had a -0.2 DBPM and a -0.1 DBPM his 1st and 2nd year.

Those are good DBPM for a young guy on a team with a poor defensive identity.

Watch teh film and clearly the talent is there and he tries. Add the GOAT defender next to him and he is going to flourish.

Update: his DBPM this year with Gobert is -0.1

And dont be shocked if you see those numbers rise significantly w/ Gobert.

Update: they haven’t

The team is much more interesting than I thought.

I think the Wolves picks will be better than I thought, but I do definitely see a lot more volatility in them and would lean towards keeping them. I do still think they will eventually figure it out and be a very good team, but I'm not as confident. I see the issue being more ego driven than fit though still believe in the fit of Towns/Gobert. The disappointment has been DLo. They need a PG more along the lines of Mike Conley or a Lonzo Ball. DLo is too ball dominant. His theoretical fit with Gobert hasn't really planned out as much as most thought

Take your 6 game victory lap lmao. It's a long season.

The Wolves were also a top 10 defense before the last game, so just goes to show you how much advanced numbers change this early in the season.

And Gobert/KAT have actually been good. The main issue right now is DLo. I actually think the team is better off with McLaughlin at this point.

You willing to double down? Are they going to be a top-3 seed still?

I would not be. I will just say I expect them to be a much better team in the 2nd half of the season than they are now. I also think their "easy" early schedule was a mind ****. We always forget how hard the "bad" teams play early on in the season. It'd be one thing if the teams Minny has lost to where only beating Minny, but that isn't the case.

My take now is that they need to move some pieces around (not huge changes). It's going to take time for everyone to understand the best fits, the best lineups, who to target in trades, etc.

I hope Gobert wins 4 straight rings tbh

LMAO

We own their first round pick next year I hope they ****ing suck.

They won't.

Oh really?

Minnesota also isn’t going to be nearly as good as most think on here. Nobody besides Jazz fans think they’re going to be anything more than maybe a second round exit as their ceiling.

If we traded a lot of our depth for KAT like Minnesota did for Gobert I don’t think many of us would think that move pushed us into being title contenders.

Bump

They definitely aren’t winning a championship or coming close to it. This is the wrong time to go all-in for Gobert when the West is ****ing stacked and you have three max players on different time lines. Just some absolute terrible planning and moves.

Bump

They are an injury away from being a play-in team.

Bump

Depth? Minnesota traded barely anything and are one of the deepest teams in the NBA. Our tenth guy from last year is on a 2 way contract for them.

They are going to be a great team, potentially special if Ant and McDaniels continue to develop.

LMAO

Minnesota isn’t better than Golden St, Denver with Murray coming back, Clippers with Kawhi coming back, Phoenix with the entire team returning, Memphis with the entire team returning, etc.

Tell me which teams they’re going to be better than. They’re gonna be battling for the 5th-6th seed at best. A lot of delusional people on here.

Pretty obvious stuff

Yeah so delusional to think a team with high level depth and (potentially depending on how much Ant improves) three top 30 players is a contender.

LMAO

I can’t wait for you to be wrong (once again) and can’t wait to hear the excuses.

Everyone with a brain knows we robbed the Timberwolves and they aren’t going to be much better than the 4th seed at best.

Cy white knighting for Gobert and Minnesota is pathetic at the highest degree. I honestly feel bad for you.

Aged quite well

Also super excited to see D'Angelo Russell with Gobert. It will really test how much better Gobert is able to make ball screen players. I think he will have a career year, maybe not statistically, but I think the basketball nerds will be like "Damn, Russell is good".

I use to be super high on D'Lo as a young prospect, then I really reversed on him, but I think he's ready for a career resurgence w/ Gobert. I think he's matured as last year he only took 15 shots per game. That was probably a hard adjustment for him, but I think Gobert will give him a level of comfort he hasnt had in a while.

Yikes

The Wolves are so overrated on here, play in team.

Great call my man

We are up to 12 games now and it has only gotten worse.

There is nothing quite vindicating as this entire thread and me absolutely crushing a ton of people on here about Minnesota.

Cy getting absolutely crushed by me for pages and pages is just glorious especially how matter of fact he talked and speaking in absolutes he was.

And IDK, I might lose interest in the Wolves very fast.

I was an ever bigger D-Will fan and I just couldnt get invested in the Nets even though I tried. A big reason for that was mostly due to D-WIll kind of falling off immediately, but also because I always thought his teammates were lame. I dont think the same will happen with Gobert so they should probably hold my interest longer.
Yeah, I overrated the Wolves players, but I was at least self aware I was doing so. Sadly this is going the way of the Nets with Dwill.

I hope Minny sucks all season and wins the lottery for us. But its also pretty early in the season, things could turn around.

They definitely seem to have some real locker room issues though. I dont think its Gobert but its also hard to overlook two seasons in a row with two different teams having crazy locker room issues and one player being front and center. I could be wrong about the source of those issues.

Either way I am really glad we traded Gobert based on the haul we got and I dont want him back unless its for 1/2 the price we sent him out for, the same goes for Mitchell.

Things could turn around but there is a zero shot they magically become a top-3 team in the West with all of the issues they have.

The locker room issues aren't player related as much as expectation related. I really have no idea how they are this bad though. It shouldn't be this bad at the lowest of points for them. Way too much talent.

I think there is probably a frustration over what they gave up to get Gobert. Overall this is just a case of less of the sum of its parts. This was a core of guys that went ******* over winning a play-in game. Too many egos, too much overthinking, Ant and KAT both being weird in their own way.

I should have just gone with the history that says KAT isn't a winner. He's the guy who ran Jimmy Butler out of town. Anything you can say about Gobert and failing, you can say triple for Towns.

I just hope they sell Gobert and takes their losses. Maybe they can get a first and a handful of players that fit the way KAT/ANT think they are supposed to play, however that is.

Not necessarily, they have the talent and teams have turned it around in those scenarios. But that said I somewhat agree its highly unlikely at this point, maybe they make some minor changes and put things together this post-season or next year. But I am actively rooting against them for sure every year we have their pick.

That is a huge maybe/assumption. I am not saying its wrong but that is unknown at this point. Thats why I said I dont think its gobert and I guess I should say I dont know what the issue actually is, but there is huge issues with a team two years in a row that should be a lot lot lot better than they are and Rudy is the only correlation. He might not be the causation though. I think time will tell, although he probably close to his downhill period.

Without this mindset I wouldn't be here with you guys enjoying one of, if not THE most entertaining start of a season ever.
