I hate rapists...

Because raping a male is joke, and not traumatic for men. After all, men are just sex beasts, and women need to adjust their behavior for men who can't control themselves.

Good hell, it took almost three pages for you to say something that makes sense and is accurate. Bravo.

Leave it to One Brow to take an attempt for a brief, completely fictional moment of levity (one which everyone understood was a joke EXCEPT for One Brow) and take it too seriously.

Seriously, One Brow, you are the most wet blanket I've ever experienced on a message board. Well... wait. Lemme think... nope, you are definitely it.

I can certainly help you find that evidence, if you are really not aware of it and truly interested.

Spin supreme. This individual who takes pride in his hairy genes raises a point, and when called to provide evidence, ducks actually doing so and instead tries to get colton to do his research for him. So not only will he spin the point... he'll spin whose responsibility it is to prove HIS point.

Disclaimer: I am not Anti-One Brow. I am just anti-One Brow's sense of humor (or lack thereof), some of his opinions and most of his debate methods. There are points in which we agree. Somewhere. I think.

I actually like One Brow quite a bit. He's an extremely intelligent dude.

I've just never run across a more agenda driven poster on this board.

Scratch that. There's one poster more agenda driven, but he's definitely in second place.

You are speaking of Craig, correct? Craig is definitely 1st (or whoever the dude who always promoted his muscle supplements).

Care to test your hypothesis?

Ask me if this is a problem within the atheist subculture. Compare my response to your expected response.

Alternatively, just keep make assumptions and walk away. It's not like your a science geek or anything, right?

I am not sure what hypothesis/assumptions you are referring to. Did you not assert that LDS women in particular make good rape targets?

Was my use of the word "joke" insufficient for you to figure out that I knew it was a joke? I have trouble believing you are that dense. Rape jokes are not funny.

How dare you be expected to raise your level of conversation to one that involves thinking and decency. The nerve of me!

You hypothesis that the reason I made such a claim has to do primarily with their being religious, as opposed to their being in a paternalistic culture. As a comparison, the atheist sub-culture is also dominated by middle-aged men, and many of the same problems with shaming appear there.

He chose the right kind of target. Women in patriarchal religions face too much victim-blaming from their support systems when they are raped.

I too often mistake the word religion for religion.
I should be ashamed of myself.

Here is one data point. I know a girl that I am very good friends with. In confidence she told me her old boyfriend 'date' raped her more than once. At the time she was estranged from her family (which he heavily influenced her to do.) So she felt alone and she never reported it to police. It was better to endure the rapes and not be completely alone. It took her years to really consider it a rape. She felt because she had 'let' it happened she was worthless. Eventually she decided to leave him but it took a long time. I believe I am the only person she has ever told.

Personally I don't think that 'LDS' cultural or any modern American culture is significantly more likely to hide rapes. I think that depends a lot more on the individual involved.

Now I am in process of managing my anger so if I ever run into the guy in a social situation I don't try calling him scum to start a fight. It would not solve anything other than make me feel better.

Oh and now that I have a wife and daugther stuff like this make me physical ill. If it was directed at my family I really might lose it.

I am right there with you.

If you always miss the importance of desciptive adjectives, you should indeed be ashamed of yourself.

Glad to see this conversation is still about me. I would hate for it to be about something minor like culture and it's impact on women reporting rape.

If you always forget the nouns you type you will always have people missing the importance of your desc(r)iptive adjectives. I will be ashamed right after you, lead the way sir.

A patriarchal religion is still a religion.

I was talking about religion, why are you still talking about yourself? Get over yourself already.

True, but non-patriarchal religions, which tends to shame less regarding women's sex drive, also do much less discourage rape reports.

I am over myself, and I'll save talking about religion for threads whose topic is religion.:p

Says the guy who started the religion talk. um... okay.

Where do you get your information about non-patriarchal religions and patriarchal religions shame rates?
I'm just curious, I would like to know before I take it as fact.

Hold up!

Does it say somewhere that the women didn't report the rapes?

I thought he got away with it the first time because it was her word against his, and it couldn't be proved it was not consensual.
