STAYWARD

The worst team in the West may end up with no better than the #10 pick or so. We've seen some of the talent one can expect around that range (Burke, Lyles, whoever Lindsey would have picked last year). Plus, you for sure would need to trade Gobert. He's not going to tolerate losing. He'd bolt in a heartbeat once his contract expired - or demand a trade. If you rebuild, trade everyone because yiu can't skip steps. Otherwise you're just a bad team treading water like the Knicks, Kings, Suns, etc.

There will be 7 teams from each conference not make the playoffs leaving the worst in the West with 8th pick or better. You have to remember that the teams in the West also have to play most of the other WC teams 3-4 times, making for a lot fewer easy games than in the East.

Think of it like buying a car, house, or any other major purchase. The smart thing to do, even if there's something you love, is to sleep on it.

Yes it would've been awesome to make an emotional decision to stay today, and I do think waiting does hurt our chances a bit, but he's just being smart. Not diva-ish at all

His decision is already made, brough

Let me be clear about something, I do not miss tanking. I don't miss advocating for tanking or talking about it as a sensible strategy. I don't want to do it. But there is a point where it is the more sensible path.

I really hope Hayward stays and we watch one of the most competitive (infra-conference) seasons any of us have ever seen. Especially since I think the Jazz have another move left.

Not from Hayward(obviously) or the Jazz, but I'm going to have to say this guy doesn't know ****.
He's a producer on 1280 the zone (jazz-owned station) and has always seemed pretty sharp to me when he comes on air. He very possibly has some inside connections. I'm wondering if maybe he heard something from one of the coaches or players who were at the meeting with Hayward today.

Can somebody tell me why I shouldn't be worried the he has to sleep on it. I feel like if he wanted to be here the decision would be an easy one. Please tell me I'm overthinking this or missing something...
I'm the same way. No matter how obvious the choice is, if it's a big decision I'm going to sleep on it. Don't be worried.

Jazz are in the West. Just not signing anyone to replace Hayward they could drop to 11th in the conference just with all the other teams that will compete. Sac, Phoenix and LAL the 3 lowest. The rest all have legitimate chance to make the playoffs. Trade Favors and JJ and get a young PF in their place.

I don't see the Jazz doing this, but it is possible.

I think people are highly overrating some of these western teams. While there's absolutely an arms race right now, I'm pretty sure that some of these big moves are going to fall flat.
